Step 1: Choose the right moment, clean and moist skin
The best time to apply perfume is right after a shower: your skin is clean and the fragrance blends with it better and lasts longer. An unscented moisturiser applied first holds the scent even longer and keeps the alcohol from drying your skin.
Step 2: Apply it to the pulse points
Pulse points give off warmth, which helps the perfume unfold gradually throughout the day:
- Inside of the wrists: the classic and most effective point.
- Neck: just behind the ear and the base of the throat.
- Inside of the elbows: another effective spot.
- Back of the knees: the scent rises as you walk.
Step 3: Spray from the right distance
Hold the bottle 15 to 20 cm from your skin. Too close, the perfume gathers in one spot; from a distance it spreads evenly into a more natural veil.
Step 4: Spray and let it dry, never rub
Rubbing your wrists together warms the skin and makes the top notes evaporate too quickly, which changes the fragrance's character and shortens its life. Just spray and let it dry on its own.
Step 5: The right amount
Two or three sprays of eau de parfum are enough. Your own nose gets used to a scent after a while; that does not mean it has faded, the people around you still notice it.
Extra tips
- Hair: do not spray it directly, the alcohol dries it; spray your hairbrush instead and brush.
- Clothes: natural fabrics such as cotton and wool hold the scent well; test a small hidden area first on silk or light colours.
- Storage: keep the bottle away from sunlight, heat and humidity, ideally in a cool, dark wardrobe rather than the bathroom.
